The effects of Work Environment Characteristics and Job Stress on the Job Satisfaction among Caregivers

Abstract

In order to find out the job stress and work environment characteristics of caregivers and to
validate the effect of those two variables on the job satisfaction, 12 nursing care institution
convenience sampling extracted and a survey was performed for 198 caregivers in Gyeong-Giprovince. The statistical analysis was performed using t-test, ANOVA and the multiple hierarchial regression analysis in SPSS package.
The study results are as follows: First, the differences of the job satisfaction according to the personal characteristics of the caregivers were found. It appeared that being male, higher economy status and health status are associated with higher levels of job satisfaction. Second, the differences of the job satisfaction according to the work environment characteristics is intention to leave. Third, there is a negative correlation between job stress and job satisfaction. Fourth, The relative significances of the variables contribution to the caregivers¡¯ job satisfaction were sex, economy status, health status in personal characteristics variables. On the other hand, intention to leave from work environment characteristics, and job stress(role conflict, role overload, role ambiguity)factors were found to be very significant in contributing the job satisfaction of the caregivers. Based on the above results, social welfare political and institutional efforts are needed
to improve the job satisfaction of caregivers, and future research were discussed.
